This story takes place after the coronation of Lord Ram. Once a huge sage conference took place in Ayodhya, in which Narada Muni, Vishwamitra and many great sages and saints participated. During this meeting, Narada Muni unknowingly created a confusion in the mind of Hanuman ji or rather, he created a situation from which a dispute arose.
Narada Muni’s trick and Vishwamitra’s anger
During the meeting, Narada Muni told Hanuman ji that he should welcome and worship all the sages, but not sage Vishwamitra, as he was once a king (rajarishi). Hanuman ji was a devotee of simple nature, he obeyed Narad ji and respected all the sages except Vishwamitra.
Vishwamitra, who was also the guru of Lord Rama, considered this a great insult. He became very angry and using his power, he ordered Lord Rama to say that his devotee had broken the dignity, hence Hanuman should be given death penalty.
Guru’s order and Lord Ram’s dilemma
Lord Ram was always known for his ‘Raghukul Reet’ i.e. following the words and orders of his Guru. It was impossible for him to defy Guru Vishwamitra’s order. With a sad heart, Lord Rama vowed that he would kill Hanuman before sunrise the next day.
There was silence in the streets of Ayodhya. No one could have imagined that Ram and Hanuman, who are one soul, would be standing in front of each other on the verge of death today.
The real miracle of the power of Ram’s name
Next morning Hanuman ji was brought to the banks of river Saryu. Hanuman ji was not sad that his worshipers were punishing him. He simply closed his eyes and started chanting ‘Ram Naam’ with full concentration.
When Lord Ram took the bow and started shooting arrows one by one, a miracle happened that instead of touching Hanuman ji, the arrows fell near his feet. Ram ji used every powerful weapon, but whatever came from the mouth of Hanuman ji “Ram” The name had created a protective shield around his body.

At last, to honor his vow and Guru’s order, Ram ji decided to take up the ‘Brahmastra’. Seeing this, Narada Muni realized his mistake and sage Vishwamitra was also stunned. Vishwamitra observed that the devotion he was questioning made even the Lord’s weapons fail. Vishwamitra immediately withdrew his order and released Ram ji from his vow.
What lesson can we learn from this story?
