Amid the ‘Orange’ and ‘Red’ alerts issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), many states have announced summer vacations ahead of time, while in other states, school timings have been drastically changed.
Summer vacations started in these states (Summer Vacations List)
In view of the scorching heat, some states have ordered complete closure of schools:
Odisha: The state government has announced summer holidays in all government and private schools from April 27, 2026.
West Bengal: Holidays have started from April 22 in the entire state except the hilly areas (Darjeeling).
Chhattisgarh: Summer vacation has been declared here from 20th April to 15th June.
Tripura: The government has ordered schools to remain closed from April 24 to May 1.
Uttarakhand (Dehradun): Due to rising mercury, Dehradun district administration has declared holiday in all schools and Anganwadi centers on April 27.

What is the situation in Delhi-NCR?
The question in the minds of parents of Delhi and Noida is whether the holidays will come soon? At present, according to the calendar of the Education Directorate of Delhi, holidays 11 May to 30 June 2026 are determined till. However, the timings for classes 1 to 8 in Noida and Ghaziabad have been changed to 7:30 am to 12:30 pm. If the temperature crosses 45°C, the Delhi government may also decide on premature holidays.

To protect from the heat, many states (like Uttarakhand and Delhi) have ‘Water Bell’ The system has started. Under this, a bell is rung at intervals in the school so that students compulsorily keep themselves hydrated by drinking water.
