Sunday morning (November 30) dawned under a shadow of fear and caution for the coastal areas of South India. Cyclone ‘Ditwah’, which originated from the Bay of Bengal, has now knocked on the doorstep of India. Its speed may be slow, but its attitude looks quite dangerous. India Meteorological Department (IMD) has made it clear that this storm will show its real impact today i.e. on Sunday.

According to the latest information, this storm is moving very slowly (only 5 km per hour) towards the north. Due to its slow speed, it can cause destruction at one place for a long time. This storm has now come very close to Puducherry and Chennai.
Meteorologists say that it can make landfall anytime today (November 30), i.e. it can hit the ground. It is moving along the coast of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry and by evening it may be just 25 km near the coast.

Chennai Airport: More than 100 flights canceled
The storm has had a direct impact on air travel. Chennai Airport had canceled 54 flights on Saturday itself and for today (Sunday) also, 47 flights (36 domestic and 11 international) have been cancelled. Railways has also made its preparations and has created a special ‘war room’ so that the tracks can be monitored.

The Tamil Nadu government and the central government are working together to deal with this natural disaster.

- Shelter Home: 6,000 relief camps are ready in sensitive areas.
