Now BCCI has decided to take help from a New Zealand doctor. According to the Times of India report, New Zealand orthopedic surgeon Dr. Rowan Schouten will assess Bumrah’s back injury. After his report, it will be decided whether to send Bumrah to New Zealand or not.

The report also suggests that the BCCI is already working on a backup plan, as it could be challenging for Bumrah to be fit in time for next month’s Champions Trophy.

Jasprit Bumrah has also been selected for the last ODI against England, which will be played on February 12, but it is unlikely that Bumrah will play in this match.

The last date to make squad changes for the Champions Trophy is February 11. Before this, India can make as many changes as it wants without ICC’s permission.

The selectors have already named Harshit Rana for the first two ODIs against England. It will be interesting to see whether Harshit Rana will replace Bumrah if he is not fit for the Champions Trophy.

A BCCI source said, “The BCCI medical team is in touch with Scouten in New Zealand. The board had planned to send Bumrah to New Zealand, but this has not happened yet. The selectors know that it will be a miracle if Bumrah becomes fully fit in time.”

Scouten had operated on Bumrah before the T20 World Cup in 2022.

Bumrah suffered a back injury during the Australia tour, and he has struggled with back injuries in the past as well.
