Sonam Wangchuk’s condition is critical after being hungry for 20 days, she has lost 9 kg weight, will the government take steps like Irom Sharmila?

New Delhi: Today Friday is the 20th day of the movement of social and climate activist Sonam Wangchuk, who is on hunger strike for the demands of Ladakh. Due to continuous fast, his weight has fallen by 9 kg and it has started having a bad effect on his organs. Delhi High Court has also expressed deep concern over Wangchuk’s deteriorating health. The court clearly said that the life of every citizen is precious and the central government should make every effort to save their lives. The court has directed government doctors to do their clinical monitoring daily.

What are the options available to the government? Will Manipur formula be adopted?

Despite continuously deteriorating health, Sonam Wangchuk is not ready to end her strike. He says that withdrawing without any concrete assurance from the government will send a wrong message. In such a situation, what options are left for the government to save Wangchuk’s life? There is discussion in political circles whether the government can adopt the approach of human rights activist Irom Sharmila, who was kept alive by inserting a nasal tube during her 16-year-long movement.

Know what was Irom Sharmila’s 16 year long fast

Irom Sharmila, popularly known as the ‘Iron Lady of Manipur’, started the world’s longest hunger strike in 2000 demanding the removal of the AFSPA law from Manipur. Then the police considered it a suicide attempt and took him into judicial custody. To save his life, doctors used a tube going through the nose to the stomach (Nasogastric Intubation). For nearly 16 years, under the supervision of doctors and guards, he was kept alive by pumping liquid nutrients and medicines through this 3 feet long tube, which he finally broke in 2016 by tasting honey.

Wangchuk is adamant on his insistence, calls for Parliament march on 20th July

Sonam Wangchuk has issued an emotional appeal to the supporters by releasing a video message and called upon them to join the proposed Parliament march on July 20. Doctors are constantly warning that this stage of fasting is very serious, where organ failure can begin. Now the entire nation’s eyes are on what steps the government takes to resolve this sensitive impasse on or before the court hearing to be held on August 25.
