A big and shocking incident of theft has come to light in the Mumbai flat of Bollywood actress Ameesha Patel. Unidentified thieves broke into the house of ‘Kaho Na Pyaar Hai’ and ‘Gadar 2’ fame actress by breaking the lock of the cupboard and taking away precious jewelery worth more than Rs 5 lakh. As soon as information about the incident was received, there was a stir in the area and the local police was immediately informed. Police reached the spot and started investigation and a case of theft has been registered against unknown accused. This incident, which took place in a high-security society in a posh residential area, has raised serious questions on the safety of celebrities and local law and order.
According to primary information received from police sources, this theft incident took place at the actress’s luxurious residence located in Khar-Bandra area. It is being told that when Ameesha Patel was out of the house for some work or busy in her personal program, the thieves committed this crime. When the cupboard of the house was checked, its inner locker was found broken and the ancestral gold bracelets, diamond rings and precious jewelery kept in it were missing. As per preliminary assessment, the estimated value of the stolen jewelery is estimated to be around ₹5 lakh. However, a detailed tally is being carried out to ascertain whether any important cash or other electronic items are missing from the house.
As soon as information about the incident was received, a special team of Mumbai Police along with forensic experts and fingerprint experts reached the actress’s residence. After inspecting the crime scene, the police have registered an FIR against unknown persons under relevant sections of the Indian Justice Code (BNS). Investigating officers believe that the thoroughness with which the cupboard was targeted and only precious jewelery was taken away, the involvement of an insider or a regular visitor to the house cannot be ruled out. The police are thoroughly interrogating the domestic help, cleaners, drivers and private security guards working at the actress’s house.
The police have taken possession of the footage from all the closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras installed in the building and the surrounding area. The timeline of the cameras of the main entrance, lift and corridor of the society is being closely examined to ascertain who entered or exited the building at the time of the incident. Apart from this, the records of old employees and service vendors who have left the job in recent times are also being scrutinized. Police officials say that they are trying to trace the suspects on the basis of technical surveillance and mobile location data and will soon arrest the accused and recover the stolen goods.
This is not the first case of homes of film celebrities being targeted in Mumbai’s high-rise and high-security societies. Even before this, incidents of cash and jewelery worth lakhs being stolen from the residences of many big Bollywood stars, directors and producers by domestic servants or vicious gangs have come to light. After this incident, Mumbai Police has appealed to citizens and celebrities living in posh areas to compulsorily get police verification done of their domestic helpers, cooks and drivers and use personal CCTV cameras and biometric locks in sensitive parts of the house.
