When Mallya congratulated Dhanteras, users got angry and made fun of SBI.

While the entire country is immersed in the joy of Dhanteras and Diwali during the festive season, fugitive businessman Vijay Mallya, who defrauded Indian banks of billions of rupees while sitting in London, also tried to wish Indian citizens on Dhanteras. As soon as Vijay Mallya posted a Dhanteras greeting message on his official social media handle X (Twitter), the anger of Indian internet users reached the seventh sky. Without wasting any opportunity, users showered comments on Mallya’s post and reminded him of his old records. This tweet of Mallya, who had fled the country after taking a loan of more than Rs 9,000 crore from several public sector banks including the State Bank of India (SBI), went viral in no time and people started taunting him.

As soon as Vijay Mallya’s post came out, there was a flurry of reactions from social media users. One user sarcastically wrote, “Vijay Bhai, Dhanteras congratulations are fine but you should have left some money for Indian banks, so that we too could celebrate the festival happily.” Another user, referring to SBI Bank, wrote, “SBI officials must be crying after seeing this tweet of yours, instead of congratulating them, return their lost money.” Within no time, thousands of memes and sarcastic comments started being posted on this tweet of Mallya. People said that hearing Dhanteras greetings from a person who has fled abroad with the entire country’s wealth is no less than a joke in itself.

Former Kingfisher Airlines owner Vijay Mallya owes a loan of more than Rs 9,000 crore to a consortium of 17 Indian banks. Mallya, who left India and fled to Britain (London) in 2016, has been declared a fugitive economic offender by Indian courts. The Government of India and central investigative agencies like CBI and ED are continuously making efforts for his extradition from Britain. Although Mallya is often active on social media and claims that he is ready to repay the entire principal amount of the banks, strict action is being taken against him under Indian legal procedures. In such a situation, this greeting given by him on the auspicious occasion of Dhanteras proved to be like sprinkling salt on people’s wounds, due to which he once again had to face heavy trolling.
