News India Live, Digital Desk: The next few hours and the next two-three days are going to be very difficult for Tamil Nadu. A low pressure area forming over the Bay of Bengal is continuously becoming stronger, due to which warnings of severe rain and storm have been issued in many coastal districts of the state including the capital Chennai. Considering the seriousness of the situation, the administration is on full alert and holidays have been declared in schools and colleges in many districts.

‘Red alert’ issued for these districts

The weather department has issued a ‘red alert’ for Chennai, Tiruvallur, Chengalpattu and Kanchipuram districts. Red alert means that in these areas Extremely heavy rain (more than 20 cm) There is a possibility of this happening, due to which flood like situations may arise. Apart from these districts, orange alert has also been issued for districts like Ranipet, Vellore, Tirupattur, Tiruvannamalai, Villupuram and Kallakurichi.

Why did the weather change?

The low pressure area over the Bay of Bengal has now turned into a depression and is likely to move in a west-northwest direction. Meteorologists believe that due to its impact, the coastal areas of Northern Tamil Nadu will see heavy to very heavy rain for the next 48 hours. There is also a possibility of strong winds and lightning at some places.

Administration tightens its belt, advises people to stay in homes

The state government has geared up to deal with the situation. National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams have been put on alert and people living in low-lying areas have been advised to move to safe places.

Holiday has been declared for today (Tuesday) in schools and colleges in all the ‘red alert’ districts including Chennai. The administration has appealed to the people not to panic, but to be completely cautious. People have been advised not to come out of their homes unless absolutely necessary and not to pay attention to any kind of rumour.
