News India Live, Digital Desk: We all know how popular Maharashtra Government’s ‘Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana’ has become among women. The Rs 1500 coming into the account every month has supported the minor expenses of many families. But, now there has been an update regarding this scheme which has created some disappointment and a lot of questions in the festive season.

In fact, the Election Commission (ECI) has expressed strong objection to the ‘advance payment’ being given under this scheme and has banned it. Now the question comes to mind that what did the Commission find bad in this? The matter is simple, Model Code of Conduct. The Election Commission believes that giving the installments of the scheme in advance just before voting can be like luring the voters, which is against the rules of fair elections.

The government was trying to ensure that on the occasion of Diwali, the money was transferred to the accounts of the sisters before time so that they could have a good festival. But the rules are in place. This strictness of the Commission does not mean that the scheme has been stopped, but it means that during the ‘election process’ the government cannot promote any such distribution which may affect the integrity of the elections.

After this decision, the debate has intensified in the political circles of Maharashtra. While on one hand the government was calling it a festival gift, the opposition was calling it an election stunt. But amidst all this, the real impact falls on the common women who really need this money.

Now many people are asking whether they will never get the money now? So there is nothing to worry about. This ban is only to prevent ‘advance’ and ‘electoral influence’. After the election process is over, the process will become normal again as per the rules. Just for the time being, the administration will have to follow the instructions of the Commission and refrain from issuing new announcements or tranches.

Well, such tussle is common during the election season, but the beneficiaries of Ladki Bahin Yojana will have to be patient for now. The hope is that very soon all these legal hurdles will be removed and the same smile will return on the faces of the sisters.
