Woman-2025 Report: For a country like India, women’s safety is not only a social issue, but also a means to decide the direction of development. The Nari-2025 report is an important initiative in this direction. With this help, those aspects related to women safety have been highlighted. The report states that 40% of women from urban areas feel insecure in their cities. This danger especially increases at night, as there are no lack of lights on the roads and adequate security arrangements.
Nari-2025 Report is based on the opinion of 12,770 women from 31 cities and hence its credibility is not limited to data, but also provides evidence of the real experiences of women. The report asked questions about the safety from women from different cities of the country, which led to some shocking results. According to the report, Ranchi, Srinagar, Kolkata, Delhi, Faridabad, Patna and Jaipur were considered the least safe cities in the country. In addition, Kohima, Visakhapatnam, Bhubaneswar, Aizawl, Gangtok, Itanagar and Mumbai have been placed in the category of safe cities.
Harassment of women,
Which includes harassment, chasing, pornographic comments and physical attacks on the road is common. Due to this, many students are leaving school and working women are being forced to quit their jobs. According to the report, in 2024, 7% of women said they faced harassment. Whereas in terms of security, girls aged 18-24 suffered the highest risk. However, when compared to the report of NCRB 2022, only 0.07% of criminal cases were filed against women. This difference shows that official data are not able to record the real pain of women.
The main reasons were emphasized in the report
- The cause of insecurity of women is not only a crime, but also many structural deficiencies, which are as follows:
- Inadequate infrastructure.
- Lack of poor lighting and CCTV.
- Unsecured and unskilled public transport.
- A social outlook, which often blames the victim.
In addition, only 22% of women file reports of their experiences of oppression and only 16% of them are prosecuted. This makes it clear that only depending on the reporting system is a big mistake.
Direction of policy and reform
But the report also states that 53% of women do not even know whether there is a POSH policy at their workplace. This directly affects the mental and professional security of women. National Women’s Commission Chairman Vijaya Kishore Rahatkar said that the purpose of this report is not only to present the data, but to bring out the real voice of women. At the same time, Prahlad Raut, MD of Pavalue Analytics, linked it to the vision of India developed 2047 and appealed to the policy makers, corporates and civil society to take concrete steps.
