Newsindia Live, Digital Desk: Education Policy: The Uttar Pradesh government has dismissed the news of plans to close government schools in the state outright. The government has clarified that no school is being discontinued, rather it is being merged with other schools nearby for the purpose of providing better resources to the schools with low student numbers.
According to the Basic Education Department, this step is being taken as per the new education policy so that students can get better educational environment and facilities. The government argues that in schools where the number of students is very low, teachers and other resources are not fully utilized. By merging these schools into large schools, children will get the benefit of modern facilities like better library, laboratory, playground and smart class.
The government has also made it clear that in this merger process, full care is being taken that no student has to go to the school located more than one kilometer from his house. Basic Education Minister Sandeep Singh also assured in the assembly that if the number of students in a school increases or there is not enough seating arrangement after the merger, classes in the original school building will be resumed.
The government was criticized by the opposition on the issue, claiming that schools were being closed. However, the government only described it as a rumor and said that this process of merger would not eliminate the post of any teacher and all one lakh 32 thousand council schools would be fully operated.
