Sarva Pitru Amavasya 2025: If you have missed, then this is the last chance to celebrate fathers

Post

Sarva pitru amavasya ke upay: Throughout the year we keep running in our lives. But there is a time in a year when we get a chance to stop and remember our roots. This is the time of Pitra Paksha, when we remember our elders who are not with us today.

Sarvapritri Amavasya is the last day of this Pitru Paksha. It is considered to be the biggest day for the ancestors bid farewell and seek their blessings. The special thing is that if you could not remember any of your fathers on their death anniversary for some reason or do not do Shraddha, then this day gives an opportunity to rectify all those mistakes. That is why it is called ‘Sarvapritri’ i.e. Amavasya of ‘all fathers’.

What to do on this day that the ancestors get blessings?

These are not a big ritual, but a simple way to express its feelings.

  1. Heart offer Tarpan:
First of all, take a bath in the morning and wear clean clothes. Then fill the water in a copper pot. Add some black sesame, barley and Ganga water to it. Now stand up to an open place or roof in the house facing south direction, because the direction of the ancestors is considered south. Take Kush (a kind of grass) in your hand and slowly drop that water down and remember all your ancestors. Pray to them to accept this water and maintain their blessings on us.
  2. Give food:
According to your reverence, call a Brahmin home and provide food. If this is not possible, then you can feed any needy or poor. Try to eat kheer-puri and such things that your elders liked. This is a symbol of the fact that we still take care of their likes and dislikes.
  3. Not just for yourself, for every creature:
The first part of the food made on the day of Shraddha must be removed for the crow, cow and dog. It is believed that our ancestors also come to take food in these forms. It teaches us that we should try to fill the stomach of not only humans, but every living being.
  4. Pindadan:
If you can, make a ball of flour or rice, apply ghee and honey to the ancestors. It is considered a way to give them energy and peace.

What should not be done on this day?

  • Avoid using iron utensils in the work of Shraddha.
  • Keep an atmosphere of peace at home and do not insult anyone.
  • On this day, stay away from meat-fish or any kind of tamasic food.

This day is not just a day of worship, but it is a chance to thank the foundation of your family i.e. thanks to your ancestors. When we remember them with true heart, their blessings are always with us, which brings happiness, peace and progress in life.
