News India Live, Digital Desk: All is not looking well in the camp of Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) after their crushing defeat at the hands of Delhi Capitals (DC) on Wednesday, April 1 in IPL 2026. After the end of the match, a video has surfaced from Ekana Stadium in Lucknow, which has created a ‘storm’ on social media. In the video, team owner Sanjeev Goenka is seen discussing with captain Rishabh Pant and head coach Justin Langer in a very ‘animated’ i.e. aggressive manner.

What is the whole matter?

The performance of Lucknow Super Giants in the match played on Wednesday was very disappointing. The entire team was reduced to just 141 runs. The most discussed decision was of captain Rishabh Pant, who promoted himself and decided to open, but he was run out after scoring only 7 runs. Delhi registered an easy victory in the match by 6 wickets. Immediately after the defeat, Sanjeev Goenka was seen explaining something to Captain Pant and Langer on the field, during which his expressions looked quite strict.

Fans got angry on social media, remembered the incident of KL Rahul

As soon as this video went viral, fans started criticizing Sanjeev Goenka. Cricket fans compared this incident to the incident in 2024, when Goenka had publicly reprimanded the then captain KL Rahul. Fans say that this kind of treatment of players reflects ‘toxic’ management, especially when Rishabh Pant is the most expensive player this season (Rs 27 crore).

What did Sanjeev Goenka say in clarification?

Seeing the controversy increasing, Sanjeev Goenka tried to handle the situation through a post on social media platform ‘X’. He defended his team and captain, writing:

“It’s a long season and moments like this are part of building a strong team. I have full confidence in our captain and the team that they will come back stronger. Thank you to the fans for supporting us in Ikana, we will come back even stronger.”

Match Brief (LSG vs DC)

This defeat has raised questions on the batting order and team balance for Lucknow in the initial season itself.

Team Score main display
Lucknow Super Giants 141 (18.4 overs) Mitchell Marsh (35), Shahbaz Ahmed (15)
Delhi Capitals 145/4 (17.1 overs) Sameer Rizvi (70*), Tristan Stubbs (39*)

outcome: Delhi Capitals won by 6 wickets with 17 balls remaining.

Questions raised on Pant’s strategy

Rishabh Pant described his opening strategy after the match as a ’50-50 call’ and hinted that he may reconsider the decision for future matches. Although owner Goenka’s public statement has tried to calm the matter for now, the echoes of this ‘animated discussion’ in the cricket world are not going to subside yet.
