According to the Islamic calendar, this night, celebrated on the 15th of Shaban month, is known for worship, forgiveness and spiritual peace. This night is also called ‘Night of Forgiveness’, where people ask for forgiveness for their sins and pray for the betterment of the coming year.
Exact date of Shab-e-Barat 2026: When is the night of prayer?
Shab-e-Barat begins in India 3 February 2026, Tuesday It has been since the evening (after Maghrib prayers). This night of worship will continue till the morning (Fajr) of 4 February 2026. the next day i.e. 4 February 2026, Wednesday A special ‘Nafil’ fast of Shab-e-Baraat will be observed on 12th.

In Islam, this night is considered very auspicious. According to religious beliefs:
Night of Repentance: On this night, Allah opens the doors of mercy for His servants and accepts the repentance sought with a true heart.
Fate’s decision: It is believed that on this night, the life, death and risk of people’s livelihood for the coming year is decided.
Graveyard visitation: On this occasion, people go to the graveyard and read Fatiha on the graves of their elders and the deceased (people who have passed away from the world) and pray for forgiveness for them.

For those who are fasting on February 4, it is mandatory to follow the timings:
Sehri time: around the morning of 4th February 05:20 AM Before (check the exact time as per your city).
Iftar time: around the evening of 4th February 06:12 pm After.
Fixed: “I intend to observe Nafil Roza on Shab-e-Baraat for the sake of Allah.”
Tradition of Halwa and Chiragan
