The neighboring country Pakistan is facing serious economic crisis these days, but despite this, the priorities of the government and administration remain a matter of concern. Especially minority communities like Hindus, Sikhs, Christians and Ahmadiyas are constantly facing atrocities. Taking these incidents seriously, India has not only opposed them in international forums, but has also put them firmly in front of the world community.
Jaishankar’s statement in Parliament: India is closely monitored
Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar made it clear during the Question Hour in the Lok Sabha during the budget session of Parliament on Friday that India is constantly monitoring the atrocities on minorities happening in Pakistan. He informed that this issue has also been raised in the United Nations so that it can be attracted globally.
He said, “We keep a close watch on the behavior of minorities in Pakistan. In the month of February, 10 cases of atrocities against the Hindu community have been reported. Seven of these cases were related to kidnapping and forced conversion, two cases were directly related to kidnapping and one case was related to police action taken on students celebrating Holi.”
Atrocities against Sikh, Ahmadiyya and Christian communities also
The Foreign Minister also gave detailed details of violent incidents against other minority communities in the Lok Sabha. He said that three serious incidents also came to light against the Sikh community. In one, the Sikh family was attacked, the other threatened to reopen one gurdwara and in the third a case of kidnapping and forced conversion with a Sikh girl came to light.
Regarding the Ahmadiyya community, he said that in one incident, Ahmadiyya Masjid was sealed and in the second 40 graves were impure. A serious case also came to light against the Christian community, in which a mentally unstable person was accused of blasphemy.
India’s tough stand in the United Nations
S. Jaishankar said that India recently criticized Pakistan’s human rights record in the United Nations Human Rights Council. The representative of India clearly stated that Pakistan is a country where “violation of human rights, oppression of minorities and systematic erosion of democratic values have become part of its policies.”
He also accused Pakistan of sheltering the terrorists banned by the United Nations and has no moral position to preach to others. The Foreign Minister also said that Pakistan should focus on giving governance, justice and equality to its people instead of accusing others.
