News India Live, Digital Desk: Team India’s rising star Ryan Parag, famous for his aggressive batting in IPL, is once again in the news for the wrong reasons. Recently, a clip that went viral on social media has set the internet on fire, in which Parag is allegedly seen ‘vaping’ (e-cigarette). This ‘off-field’ action can become a cause of trouble for this player who has made headlines for his talent on the cricket field. There are strict laws regarding e-cigarettes in India and a small mistake in this matter can land them behind the bars.

What is the whole matter? Picture went viral on social media Actually, during a live stream or social media video, a device was seen in Riyan Parag’s hand, which users are calling ‘Vape’. As soon as this video went viral, a debate broke out among the fans. While some are calling it his personal choice, most people are strongly criticizing his behavior as a national athlete and role model for the youth. However, till now no official clarification has come from Riyan Parag or his team on this.

Attention ‘Vaping’ is illegal in India, you can face jail In view of the health risks, the Government of India has completely banned the production, import, export, transportation, sale and advertisement of e-cigarettes since 2019 under the ‘Prohibition of Electronic Cigarettes Act’ (PECA).

Provision of punishment: For first-time violation of this law, the punishment can be up to 1 year in jail or a fine of Rs 1 lakh (or both).

If caught again: If a person breaks this law again, the punishment can extend up to 3 years and the fine can be up to Rs 5 lakh.

BCCI and discipline: Will the blame fall? BCCI is very strict regarding the discipline of its players. According to the Board’s ‘Code of Conduct’, no player should be involved in any activity that hurts the dignity of the game or has a bad influence on the youth. If the board takes cognizance of this matter, Riyan Parag may have to face a heavy fine or even a ban. Even before this, Parag has been in controversies regarding his celebrations and social media comments, but this legal matter can put a big stain on his career.

Wrong message for the youth, fans expressed displeasure Cricket is like a religion in India and players are worshiped like God. In such a situation, the fans are not liking the association of a young player like Riyan Parag with ‘vaping’. People on social media are demanding that athletes should understand their responsibilities. Health experts also believe that vaping can cause serious lung diseases. Now it remains to be seen what stand BCCI and law take in this matter.
