Ravan’s Gold Lanka: Seven storey palace, bed of gems and 1 lakh soldiers; The truth of Ravana’s eyes of Lanka is recorded in Valmiki Ramayana.

During the Ramayana period, the splendor, opulence and unimaginable shine of Ravana’s golden Lanka was discussed all over the world. A very lively, beautiful and authentic description of this grand city is found in the fourth canto of Sunderkand of ‘Valmiki Ramayana’ written by the great poet Valmiki. When the mighty Hanuman reached Lanka in search of Mother Sita and entered Lanka after defeating the city guard Lankini, he himself was surprised to see the supernatural sight there.

Palaces studded with diamonds and gems and demons used to recite Veda mantras.

According to Valmiki Ramayana, this city situated on the huge peak of Trikuta mountain was an unmatched example of art and architecture. The windows and windows of its grand palaces were studded with precious diamonds and gems. While on one hand there was an echo of Ravana’s praises on the highways, on the other hand there was another spiritual aspect of Lanka. In many houses of Lanka the demons were regularly reciting and doing Swadhyaya (study) of the Veda mantras. In terms of security, Lanka was impenetrable; Only for the security of its central part, a huge army of more than one lakh selected soldiers equipped with modern weapons was always deployed.

How was Ravana’s seven-storey main palace?

According to the amazing information recorded in the book, Ravana’s main palace was seven storeys high, whose outer walls were covered with thick layers of pure gold. In the courtyard of the palace, Hanuman ji saw a huge pile of priceless chariots, elephants, best breed horses and jeweled palanquins. Within the palace itself, there were beautiful art galleries, playgrounds for entertainment and artistic gold sculptures, which reflected Ravana’s rich artistic taste.

Kuber’s divine Pushpak Vimana, which moved at the speed of the mind

In the huge premises of this palace stood the historical and divine ‘Pushpak Viman’ which was snatched from the wealthy Kuber. This aircraft was built by Vishwakarma, the supreme architect of the gods, for Lord Brahma himself. Made entirely of gold and rare gems, the aura of this aircraft was as resplendent as the sun. The biggest feature of this aircraft was that it flew in the air at the speed of the pilot’s mind (willpower) and its amazing design defeated even the best aircraft of the world.

Hanuman reached Ravana’s harem: Lankapati was sleeping on a bed of gems

  • A view like heaven: When Pawanputra Hanuman entered Ravana’s inner chamber (bedroom) while searching for Mother Sita, he felt for a moment that he had actually come to heaven. There was a very valuable and huge carpet spread on the floor of the room.

  • Bed of Gems: The bed on which Ravana was resting was placed on a high altar made of crystal stones. The carvings of this bed were studded with ivory, pure gold and precious stones. There was a white colored royal divine canopy at the head of the bed and the smell of rare fragrant perfume was spread throughout the bedroom.

  • Ravana’s rule: There is a clear mention in Valmiki Ramayana that despite being a great warrior, Ravana did not touch any woman without her consent due to his power.

Hanuman ji got confused after seeing Mandodari, then reached Madhyashala.

In the same grand bedroom, Hanuman ji saw Queen Mandodari of Lanka sleeping on a very beautiful bed. Mandodari’s form and aura were so supernatural that for a moment Hanuman ji got confused that perhaps she was Mother Sita. But the very next moment his conscience worked and he thought that Mother Sita, who was distraught due to the separation from Shri Ram, could never sleep so peacefully in Ravana’s luxurious palace. They then went to the Madyashala (kitchen and tavern) of the palace, where vessels were filled with a variety of exquisite dishes, meats and wines. Seeing other women sleeping there, religious hesitation and fear of sin came in Hanuman ji’s mind, but he consoled himself that there was no lust or wrong thought in his mind.

Golden temple of one thousand pillars found in Ashok Vatika, where Mother Sita was found

After not finding any trace of Mother Sita inside the palace, Hanuman ji finally moved towards ‘Ashok Vatika’. According to Valmiki Ramayana, this garden was more beautiful and charming than the ‘Nandan Forest’ of Devraj Indra. There were countless trees laden with flowers and juicy fruits blooming in every season and freshwater lakes were covered with blooming lotuses. Right in the middle of this garden, Hanuman ji saw a huge Chaitya Prasad (grand temple).

The grandeur of this temple was worth seeing; It had a thousand pillars, its stairs were made of precious coral and its altars were covered with pure gold. Hanuman ji recognized Mother Sita sitting near a tree under this divine temple, very pitiful, emaciated from fasting but in a very pure state. This entire account of Valmiki Ramayana irrefutably proves that the glory of Ravana’s Lanka was truly unique and historic.
