Hamirpur, August 19 (HS). In Bundelkhand region, on the day of Raksha Bandhan festival, the wrists of brothers will remain empty today. Apart from the city, in the entire rural areas, sisters will tie Rakhi to their brothers on the next day of Raksha Bandhan festival. As soon as Rakhi is tied, Kajli fair will be celebrated in Veerbhoomi. Now the preparations for the centuries old Kajli fair have been finalized.
According to Hamirpur's Alha singer Dinesh Kumar, hundreds of years ago, King Prithviraj Chauhan attacked Mahoba on the day of Rakshabandhan. His army looted Rani Malhana's dolas, then the people of Veer Bhoomi cancelled this festival. After this historic event, Alha-Udal fought with Prithviraj Chauhan's army and brought back Rani Malhana's looted dolas. That is why Rakshabandhan festival was not celebrated on that day. Prithviraj Chauhan's son Suraj Singh died in the fierce battle. After getting back the looted dolas filled with kajal, Rani Malhana celebrated the festival of Rakshabandhan by immersing the kajals in Mahoba's Kirat Sagar the next day of Rakshabandhan.
There is a tradition of eating curd and jalebi on the day of Rakshabandhan festival
Writer Lakhanlal Joshi said that there is a tradition of eating Jalebi from house to house on the day of Rakshabandhan. Sisters tie Raksha Sutra on the hands of their brothers. Women take Kajli and immerse it in the ponds with Saavan songs and Kajli songs. The heroic tale of Alha-Udal is sung through Alha at many places. The elderly writers Lakhanlal Joshi and Dr. Bhavanidin Prajapati told that the people of Mahoba listen to the tales of Alha-Udal's bravery with great enthusiasm and also feel proud of Bundelkhand's bravery. Alha-Udal's bravery still lives in the hearts of the people here. Poet Jagnik, author of Alha Khand, was the court poet of King Parmal
Alha singer Dinesh Kumar told that the one who composed the Khand Kavya, on hearing which people's arms start trembling, was the great poet Jagnik, who was also a valiant commander and minister. He did not belong to Agra or Fatehpur but to Mahoba. Today's Alha singers present the Alha Khand in a distorted manner, due to which people are not able to get the correct information. Jagnik belonged to Mahoba itself. He was the court poet of King Parmal. Alha-Udal used to call him uncle. Jagnik belonged to the maternal home of Alha-Udal.
