Prime Minister of Greece advocated permanent membership of India in the Security Council

New Delhi, 21 February (HS). Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis on Wednesday praised Indian democracy and described the country as an important partner in global peace and security. Along with this, he also advocated India's permanent membership in the United Nations Security Council.

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, at the Raisina Dialogue held in Delhi, described India as a great power of the world and said that the country is an important ally in the pursuit of peace and security. Greece supports reform of the UN Security Council to give leading countries like India representation at the highest forum. India is a leading democracy in the global south. The world looks to India when it comes to shaping the global future. It is appropriately regarded as a 'consensus builder'.

In the ninth Raisina Dialogue, the Prime Minister of Greece described his country as the natural gateway to Europe. He said that work is being done on new corridors for data and energy. The emergence of unprecedented projects like the IMEC-India Middle East Europe Corridor holds great promise to supercharge connectivity between the growth economies of India, the Middle East and Europe.

He said that Greece can play a big role in connecting India and Europe. This will provide connectivity to the Global North and Global South. Since ancient times, there has been exchange of goods, knowledge and intelligence through the corridor passing through their country. He said that relations between India and Greece are based on respect, friendship, values ​​and mutual desire to see progress and prosperity for our peoples.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and foreign ministers of several countries participated in the Raisina Dialogue today.

The Prime Minister of Greece said that India has proved that democracy can bring economic development. He said that India challenges the misconception that large scale is an obstacle to democracy. India with a population of 1.4 billion is an example for the world. He described the year 2024 as important from geopolitical point of view and said that half of the world's population will elect their representatives through voting this year.

The Prime Minister of Greece called for vigilance towards the challenges facing democracy and mentioned artificial intelligence in this context. He said that India is going to become the leading country in creating framework for AI. He said that India and Greece do not see democracy as an obstacle but as an enabler for better distribution of governance.
