News India Live, Digital Desk: For decades, whenever we think of traveling by plane, only two names come to mind – America’s Boeing and Europe’s Airbus. These two companies have monopolized the world aviation market. But now, to change this picture, India has prepared to take a big and bold step.

Government aerospace company, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), is planning to manufacture a passenger jet in India in collaboration with Russia. This plane is from Russia Sukhoi Superjet-100 (SJ-100)Possibilities of making it ‘Made in India’ are now being explored. If this deal is successful, it will prove to be a milestone in the history of Indian aviation.

What is SJ-100 and why is it special?

The Sukhoi Superjet-100 is a regional jet, meaning it is designed for short- and medium-haul flights. It has a seating capacity of about 100 passengers, which is perfect for India’s domestic routes.

Its most special thing is that after the sanctions of western countries, Russia has made it without any western parts. That is, this aircraft is completely based on Russian technology. Now there is a plan to bring this technology to India and prepare it for Indian skies.

Why is this deal a game-changer for India?

It’s not just about building a plane, it has much deeper implications:

  1. Wings to ‘self-reliant India’: This will give new heights to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Make in India’ and ‘Self-reliant India’ campaign. India will enter the field of manufacturing commercial passenger jets for the first time.
  2. End dependence on Boeing-Airbus: Till now all the airlines of India are completely dependent on Boeing and Airbus for passenger aircraft. Having our own aircraft will reduce this dependency and the country’s money will remain in the country.
  3. The needs of the growing market will be met: India is the fastest growing aviation market in the world. Hundreds of new aircraft are required here every year. An aircraft made in India can meet these needs.
  4. New Jobs and Technological Development: This project will create thousands of new jobs in the country and India will gain advanced aerospace technology.

New chapter of India-Russia friendship

India and Russia have a decades-old and trusted partnership in the defense sector. From Sukhoi fighter planes to BrahMos missile, both the countries have achieved many successes together. Now this partnership is going to write a new chapter in the field of civil aviation.

There are no less challenges on the way

Although this dream is very big and golden, but its path is not easy. The biggest challenge will be to obtain international safety standard certificate for this aircraft, so that it can fly in other countries of the world also. Moreover, it will be a tough task to compete with the established giants like Boeing and Airbus.

But, this step of HAL shows India’s ambition that it now wants to become a manufacturer and not just a buyer of technology. If this mission is successful, then soon you and I will be able to proudly say – “Our sky, our aircraft
