News India Live, Digital Desk: In Hindu religion, every day is special to please Lord Shiva, but Monday and Pradosh Vrat, both of them have their own special significance. Monday is considered to be the day of Bholenath and Pradosh Vrat is observed for Lord Shiva on the Trayodashi date of every month. Now just think, when both these auspicious coincidences happen on the same day, how much its importance would increase! This great coincidence is called ‘Soma Pradosh Vrat’.
Today, i.e. Trayodashi of Kartik Krishna Paksha is also this holy day, when Lord Shiva showers double his blessings on those who observe fast and worship.
Why is Som Pradosh so special?
Pradosh means ‘beginning of the night’. This is the time when the day is waning and the night is beginning, i.e. around sunset. According to mythological beliefs, at this time Lord Shiva dances happily in his silver mansion on Mount Kailash and holds the moon in his locks.
When Pradosh Vrat falls on a Monday, it becomes special. Monday is dedicated to the Moon and Moon God is also present on the head of Lord Shiva. Therefore, observing Som Pradosh fast not only pleases Lord Shiva but also pacifies the defects associated with the Moon in the individual’s horoscope. This provides mental peace, removes stress and brings stability in life. That means one fast and many fruits.
Story of Som Pradosh fast
There is a very beautiful story behind this fast. A widow Brahmin used to earn her living by begging along with her son. One day he met an injured prince of Vidarbha country on the way. His father was driven out of the kingdom by his enemies. The Brahmin brought him to her home and started taking care of him.
One day sage Shandilya advised that Brahmin to observe Pradosh fast. The Brahmin and both the children started fasting regularly. A few days later, both the boys were roaming in the forest, where they met some Gandharva girls. The prince met a Gandharva girl named Anshumati. Anshumati’s father recognized the prince and got his daughter married to him. The prince won back his kingdom with the help of a huge army of Gandharvas.
The prince gave the post of minister in his court to that Brahmin and her son. All this was the result of that Som Pradosh fast, due to which all the troubles of the life of both that Brahmin and the prince went away. It is believed that whoever observes this fast and listens to the story with full devotion, happiness and prosperity comes in his life.
