According to the statement of Alipore Meteorological Office on Monday, there may be snow along with rain in some areas of Darjeeling district. Due to this, mountain roads, hotels and surrounding areas can be covered in white sheets of snow.
Here, the effect of cold is being clearly felt in South Bengal including Kolkata. People were seen shivering in the metropolis since Sunday morning. However, on the first Sunday of the year, a picnic atmosphere prevailed in the city and surrounding areas.
According to the Meteorological Department, the minimum temperature of Kolkata had increased slightly in the last two to three days after December 31, but suddenly the weather pattern changed on Sunday. According to Alipore records, the minimum temperature in Kolkata was recorded at 12.5 degrees Celsius early on Monday. However, people felt the effect of cold more than the temperature figures, which is being called real feeling. As the day progressed, the cold also became more intense. Similar cold is likely to persist for the next few days. The temperature may drop further by two to three degrees.
A warning of dense fog has been issued in the districts of North Bengal this entire week. There is a possibility of reduced visibility. There may be rain or snowfall at some places in Darjeeling district. There is a possibility of light rain in Jalpaiguri, Kalimpong and Alipurduar. There is no possibility of rain in South Bengal at present.
