The political temperature from Patna to Delhi has reached sky high regarding the biennial elections to be held on 9 seats of Bihar Legislative Council (MLC Election). On the last day of nomination, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) has once again placed its bet on its most trusted and close mouthed brother of former Chief Minister Rabri Devi, Sunil Kumar Singh. There was a lot of speculation ever since the NDA announced the names of its candidates, but on Monday, the last date of nomination, a very big news has come out from the RJD camp. According to party sources, after the consent of Lalu Prasad Yadav and Tejashwi Yadav, Sunil Singh has been instructed to keep all his necessary documents completely ready and he will file his nomination today itself on behalf of the Grand Alliance.
Secret meeting of Lalu-Tejashwi in Delhi, hence delay in official announcement
There was a lot of discussion in political circles about why RJD did not reveal its cards till the last day of nomination. Actually, RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav returned to Delhi late on Saturday night after getting his routine checkup done from Singapore and is staying at the official residence of his elder daughter and MP Misa Bharti. At the same time, Leader of Opposition in Bihar Assembly Tejashwi Yadav is also staying there to attend a very important meeting of India Alliance held in Delhi on Monday. Due to the absence of the top leadership in Patna, the official list of names of the candidates could not be released till late Sunday night, but internally the name of Sunil Singh was finalized.
Magic figure of 25 MLAs, according to numbers, one seat of RJD is absolutely confirmed.
If we look at the current situation of Bihar Assembly, at present NDA has the huge support of about 202 MLAs in the total 243 member assembly. According to the current mathematics of this election, any candidate needs first preference votes of at least 25 MLAs to reach the Legislative Council. From the point of view of this political and mathematical equation, while NDA is seen easily getting 8 seats, on the basis of numbers, the victory of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) on one seat is considered completely certain. On this only safe seat, RJD has decided to give another chance to its old stalwart Sunil Singh.
Owaisi’s party AIMIM had asked for a promise from Tejashwi, fearing that the bet would go in vain
Asaduddin Owaisi’s party All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) may face a big blow after RJD finalizes Sunil Singh’s name. Amidst the rumor of elections, State President of Bihar unit of AIMIM, Akhtarul Iman had made an open demand for a seat from Tejashwi Yadav. Iman had reminded RJD that ‘when we gave up our candidature during the Rajya Sabha elections and unconditionally supported the India Alliance candidate, Tejashwi Yadav had promised that he would take full care of our political interests in future. Now the time has come for Tejashwi to fulfill his promise. However, RJD has given preference to an internally loyal leader instead of giving a chance to an outsider on its reserved seat.
