Prime Minister Narendra Modi has sent warm wishes to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on the occasion of his birthday. The Prime Minister shared a short and dignified message on social media platform ‘X’ (formerly Twitter) and wished Mann good health, long life and a happy life. This healthy democratic tradition of respect and harmony towards each other beyond political ideologies and party boundaries is considered a beautiful identity of Indian politics. This dialogue between the two leaders is being greatly appreciated politically, from the political corridors of Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh, to Chandigarh, the capital of Punjab and the national capital Delhi.
Congratulating the Chief Minister of Punjab through his official social media handle, Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote that many happy birthday wishes to the Chief Minister of Punjab Bhagwant Mann Ji, may God grant him long life and may he always remain healthy and happy. There is a well-established practice of the Prime Minister from time to time greeting the Chief Ministers of various States and prominent Leaders of the Opposition on important occasions in their personal lives—such as birthdays and anniversaries. Bhagwant Mann also expressed his courtesy to the Prime Minister on his greeting message and expressed his gratitude.
Born on 17 October 1973 in Satoij village of Sangrur district of Punjab, the life of Bhagwant Mann is a unique story of struggle, talent and unexpected successes. Before entering the political arena, Bhagwant Mann ruled the hearts of not only Punjab but the entire country with his satire and stand-up comedy. Through his social and political satire comedy on national platforms like ‘The Great Indian Laughter Challenge’, he boldly raised the problems of the common people. In the year 2011, he entered active politics and was elected MP from Sangrur Lok Sabha seat for two consecutive times on Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) ticket in 2014 and 2019 general elections. He was well known for his passionate and typical Punjabi style speeches on the floor of Parliament. The Aam Aadmi Party declared him as its chief ministerial face in the 2022 Punjab Assembly elections, after which the party registered a historic victory by winning 92 out of 117 seats and Mann took oath as the 17th Chief Minister of Punjab at Khatkar Kalan, the ancestral village of freedom fighter Bhagat Singh.
Apart from Prime Minister Modi, all the top leaders of the country also sent congratulatory messages to the Chief Minister of Punjab on his birthday. Former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal described Bhagwant Mann as his younger brother and praised his efforts for his bright future and the prosperity of Punjab. Along with this, Chief Ministers of various states, Union Ministers, leaders of opposition in Punjab Assembly and prominent politicians of Shiromani Akali Dal and Congress also congratulated Bhagwant Mann through telephone and social media. Aam Aadmi Party workers and fans across Punjab celebrated the day as Seva Diwas by organizing blood donation camps, fruit distribution and tree plantation programs at many places.
During its tenure, the Bhagwant Mann government has kept Aam Aadmi Clinic, free electricity scheme, zero tolerance on corruption and de-addiction campaigns among its priorities. Although there have been policy differences and tussles between the Central and Punjab governments on law and order, stubble management and farmers-related issues on many occasions, courtesy and coordination between the two sides at the personal level has always been maintained. The good wishes received on this auspicious occasion of birthday have proved that despite electoral competition and policy opposition, the public representatives holding top positions in the country always keep the feeling of mutual respect paramount.
