Varanasi, June 22 (HS). Acharya Laxmikant Dixit, a great Pandit of Kashi, who had performed the Pran Pratishtha of Ram Lalla in the sanctum sanctorum of the newly built Shri Ram Janmabhoomi temple in Ayodhya, merged into the five elements on Saturday. His last rites were performed at Manikarnika Ghat in Kashi. His eldest son Jairam Dixit lit the funeral pyre.
Laxmikant Dixit passed away in the morning. He was 82 years old and was suffering from age-related diseases for a long time. He breathed his last at his residence in Panchgangaghat, Varanasi.
As soon as the news of Dixit's death spread, a wave of grief ran through the learned community of Kashi, acquaintances and well-wishers. A large number of people reached his residence to express their condolences. A large number of people also participated in the last journey that started from his residence.
Laxmikant Dixit's family originally came to Kashi from Solapur district of Maharashtra. In Kashi, Laxmikant Dixit was considered one of the eminent scholars of Yajurveda. Pandit Laxmikant Dixit led 121 other acharyas as the chief acharya in the Praan Pratishtha of Shri Ramlala held on 22 January in Ayodhya. All the rituals of Praan Pratishtha of Shri Ramlala were performed under his supervision.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has condoled the death of Laxmikant Dixit. In his condolence message in X Post, Adityanath wrote that the departure of Acharya Laxmikant Dixit, Vedamurthy, a great scholar of Kashi and the chief priest of Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Pranapratishtha, is an irreparable loss to the spiritual and literary world. He will always be remembered for his service to Sanskrit language and Indian culture. It is a prayer to Lord Shri Ram that he may give a place to the departed soul in his lotus feet and give strength to his disciples and followers to bear this sorrow.
