News India Live, Digital Desk: The festival of Akshaya Tritiya has special significance in Hindu religion. It is not only known for the purchase of gold or the beginning of auspicious works, but it is also directly related to a very miraculous incident of the Mahabharata period. According to mythology, on the Tritiya Tithi of Shukla Paksha of Vaishakh month, Lord Shri Krishna gifted ‘Akshay Patra’ to the Pandavas to relieve their sufferings. Let us know in detail what is the secret of this magical vessel and this mythological story of Akshaya Tritiya.
When Pandavas faced food crisis in exile
According to the Mahabharata, when the Pandavas were spending their exile after losing everything in gambling, the biggest challenge before them was to welcome the guest Brahmins and sages who came to their ashram. They did not have enough food to feed hundreds of people every day. In such a situation, Dharmaraja Yudhishthir performed difficult penance for the Sun God. Pleased with his devotion, Sun God gave him a copper vessel, which was called ‘Akshaya Patra’. The specialty of this vessel was that the food in it never ran out until Draupadi herself finished eating.
Shri Krishna saved the honor of Pandavas with a grain of rice.
A very interesting story related to this character is related to sage Durvasa. When under the conspiracy of Duryodhana, sage Durvasa along with his disciples suddenly arrived at the Pandavas’ hut for food, Draupadi had already finished eating. The vessel was empty and there was fear of the sage’s anger. In this hour of crisis, Draupadi remembered Lord Shri Krishna. Kanhaiya reached there and ate only one grain of rice stuck to the vessel. As soon as he was satisfied, the stomachs of sage Durvasa and his disciples got filled automatically and the Pandavas were saved from their curse.
Why is charity important on Akshaya Tritiya?
The word ‘Akshay’ itself means that which can never be destroyed. According to beliefs, Satyayuga and Tretayuga had started on this holy day. The scriptures say that any auspicious work, worship or donation done on this date gives auspicious results to the person till eternity. Just as the Akshaya Patra given to the Pandavas was never empty, similarly the donation made on this day leaves no dearth of happiness and prosperity in the life of the person.
Religious significance: Coincidence of Parshuram Jayanti and descent of Ganga.
It was on the day of Akshaya Tritiya that the sixth incarnation of Lord Vishnu, Parshuram ji, appeared. Also, on this day the holy river Ganga descended on earth. This is the reason why it is called Abujh Muhurta, that is, there is no need to consult the Panchang for any auspicious work on this day. If you also wish for happiness, peace and prosperity in your life, then donating food, water and clothes on this day is considered best.
