Pakistan Earthquake News: On Friday morning, when most people were in deep sleep, the land of Pakistan trembled with strong earthquake tremors. Frightened people came out of their homes. According to the National Center for Seismology, the intensity of this earthquake was measured at 5.2 on the Richter scale.
The epicenter of the earthquake was far below the ground, at a depth of about 135 kilometers. The fortunate thing is that at present there is no news of any loss of life or property.
Earth trembled twice in 71 minutes
Interestingly, this was the second tremor in this area within an hour. The Indian National Center for Seismology said the first tremor was felt at 1:59 am in neighboring Afghanistan. Exactly 71 minutes later, at 3:09 am, a second and stronger earthquake hit Pakistan.
Why do earthquakes occur and why is this area so dangerous?
What happens under the earth that shakes everything? Actually, there are 7 big rocky plates inside our earth, which keep floating continuously. When these plates collide with each other, it creates tremendous energy, which reaches the earth’s surface in the form of vibrations. We call this vibration earthquake.
Scientists believe that earthquakes that occur low below the ground are more dangerous because their energy reaches the surface very quickly, causing more damage to buildings.
Why is Pakistan in ‘dangerous zone’?
The entire region of Pakistan, Afghanistan and northern India is one of the most seismically active areas in the world. Pakistan lies on several major fault lines, which make it extremely vulnerable to earthquakes. Areas like Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are on the edge of the Eurasian Plate, while Punjab and Sindh are on the edge of the Indian Plate. The collision of these two huge plates is the real reason for the frequent earthquakes in this entire region.
