News India Live, Digital Desk: The weather in Uttar Pradesh has once again taken a dangerous turn. Due to the active Western Disturbance, the Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning of ‘disaster from the sky’ in the entire state for the next three days. ‘Orange alert’ has been issued for severe thunderstorm, torrential rain and hailstorm in more than 50 districts of the state between April 7 and 9, 2026. Since Tuesday morning, a drop in temperature has been recorded in Noida, Ghaziabad and many parts of western UP due to movement of clouds and cold winds along with drizzle.
Maximum impact in Western UP: Storm will come at a speed of 60 km/hour
According to meteorologists, the maximum impact of this change will be seen in western Uttar Pradesh. There is a possibility of dust storm at a speed of 50 to 60 kilometers per hour in districts like Agra, Aligarh, Mathura, Meerut, Ghaziabad and Saharanpur. Along with this, large sized hailstones can also fall in these areas, due to which there is a fear of huge damage to the crops. The department has advised people to stay in safe places away from trees and electric poles during inclement weather.
Alert in Eastern UP including Lucknow: There will be heavy rain on April 8
There is forecast of rain and thundershowers in eastern Uttar Pradesh including the capital Lucknow, Kanpur, Varanasi and Gorakhpur. An alert of particularly heavy rain and thunderstorm has been issued in Lucknow on April 8. The Meteorological Department says that this trend, which started from April 7, will continue till April 9. While on one hand this will provide relief from the scorching heat, on the other hand life can be affected due to lightning and stormy winds.
Farmers’ increased concern: fear of danger to crops due to hailstorm
Unseasonal rains and hailstorms in the month of April have drawn lines of worry on the foreheads of farmers. This season can prove to be a ‘villain’ for the crops standing and harvested in the fields. The coming 48 to 72 hours are going to be very challenging especially for the farmers harvesting mango blossom and wheat. The administration has appealed to the farmers to keep their produce in safe places and exercise caution.
Why did the weather change suddenly?
According to the Meteorological Department (IMD), two powerful western disturbances have become active one after the other from the north-west direction. The collision of moisture coming from the Arabian Sea and hot winds from the plains has created instability in the atmosphere of North India. This is the reason why a monsoon-like scene is being seen in the beginning of April. Its effect is being seen in Delhi-NCR, Rajasthan and Bihar.
