A survey of rich people on alcohol consumption has revealed shocking results. According to the recently released report, Indians do not drink more than one third of the rich alcohol. The survey was conducted among 150 Indians with assets of more than Rs 8.5 crore.

According to the Mercedes-Benz Hurun India Luxury Consumer Survey 2025, 34 percent of the respondents said that they do not drink alcohol at all, while 32 percent said they love whiskey. At the same time, 11 percent prefer red wine and 9 percent champagne. The question arises that which state of the country spends the most on alcohol?

People spend the most money on alcohol in these states

In fact, in August last year, a survey report was released by the National Institute of Public Finance and Policy (NIPFP) under the Ministry of Finance in August, according to which, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana spend the most money on liquor across the country.

The NSSO’s 2011-12 domestic consumption expenditure survey shows that Andhra Pradesh has the highest annual consumption of per capita liquor at Rs 620, while CMIE Survey (SPHS) suggests that Telangana has the highest consumption of liquor, where per capita annual consumption is Rs 1,623.

Based on data from both NSSO and CMIE, the lowest spending state is Uttar Pradesh, where ₹ 75 and ₹ 49 is spent on per capita liquor respectively. According to NSSO survey data, other top states that spend the most per capita on alcohol include Kerala (₹ 486), Himachal Pradesh (₹ 457), Punjab (₹ 453), Tamil Nadu (₹ 330) and Rajasthan (₹ 308).
