Worship of Gods and Goddesses has a special place in Sanatan tradition. We worship many Gods and Goddesses in our daily life, but the most important place among all is our ‘Kuldevi’ or ‘Kuldevta’. Our ancestors have been worshiping the goddess of their clan from generation to generation. According to Hindu beliefs, without the blessings of the Kuldevi, any auspicious work in the house can neither be started nor can it be completed successfully.

It is said that when the Kuldevi’s hand is at the head of the family, all the special tasks planned are completed in the desired manner and at the right time. On the contrary, if they are ignored, a person has to face all kinds of obstacles and troubles at every turn of life. When should Kuldevi be worshipped? (Auspicious dates and days)

According to Hindu religious scriptures, some special days and dates have been prescribed to get the blessings of Kuldevi, on which the results of the worship done are manifold:

• Friday: Generally, Friday is considered the best day for worshiping Goddess Lakshmi and Kuldevi. On this day, the women of the house should be especially pure and worship the Mother Goddess.

• Ashtami and Navami of Navratri: Ashtami and Navami Tithi of Chaitra and Shardiya Navratri of the year are considered to be the great auspicious time for the worship of Kuldevi. On this day it is mandatory to light a lamp and offer food in the name of Kuldevi.

• Amavasya and Purnima: Amavasya and Purnima tithi of any month are also considered very auspicious for special worship and havan of Kuldevi.

It is mandatory to remember on special occasions:

Whenever there is any auspicious or religious event in the family—like engagement, marriage, tilak, sacred thread ceremony, head shaving of children, or housewarming of a new house—then the first invitation and puja is offered to the Kuldevi. Any auspicious work is considered incomplete without his blessings.

Correct method of worshiping Kuldevi: How to please her?

The entire family should always worship the Kuldevi together. This increases mutual love and harmony in the family.

1. Evening time: Clean the temple of the house on Friday or any auspicious date in the evening (during Pradosh Kaal).

2. Pooja Samagri: Offer flowers, sandalwood, roli, akshat (unbroken rice), vermillion and red colored clothes or chunari to the mother.

3. Special Indulgence: To please the Kuldevi, one should offer halwa, puri, kheer or churma made from pure desi ghee.

4. Collective Prayer: All the family members should sit together and perform the Aarti of the Mother with devotion and seek forgiveness for their known and unknown mistakes and pray for the protection of the family.

What happens if the family deity is displeased or ignored?

Often in the race of modernity, people forget the traditions and family deities of their clan. According to beliefs, on doing so the family has to face ‘Kuldevi’s wrath’ or displeasure, the symptoms of which are seen as follows:
