News India Live, Digital Desk: Yogi government is going to make a big change in the education system of council schools (government primary and upper primary schools) of Uttar Pradesh. Now the study time and distribution of subjects will not be rote learning in lakhs of schools in the state. Uttar Pradesh Basic Education Council has given the power to the principals of the schools to prepare their own time table based on the local needs of their school and the availability of teachers.
Why was the years old rule changed?
Till now, a fixed ‘ideal time table’ was sent to all the council schools of the state, following which it was mandatory for every school. But, it is often seen that in some schools there is a shortage of teachers and in some other the number of students is more. In such a situation, the same time table was not fitting everywhere. The Council believed that the Headmaster knows the situation of his school better, hence it is necessary to give him autonomy so that studies do not suffer.
Teachers and children will get big relief
Under the new system, the headmaster will now be able to decide which teacher will teach which subject in which class. If a school has no or few mathematics teachers, the headmaster will be able to adjust the time table using available resources. Apart from this, schools will also be able to set timings for sports, library and extracurricular activities at their own level. This will not only balance the workload of teachers, but children will also get a chance to learn better.
The department will keep an eye on quality
Although headmasters have been exempted, it does not mean that they will ignore the rules. The Council has clarified that while making the time table, the standards of total teaching hours and compulsory subjects will have to be followed. The department will inspect schools from time to time to ensure that the schedule made by headmasters is proving helpful in improving the educational level of children.
The new schedule will be digital
Under this new policy, schools may have to prepare their new time table and update it on the online portal of the department. With this, the government will be aware of what kind of educational activities are going on in which school. Preparations have been started to implement it in the entire districts of UP including Lucknow. Education experts have lauded the move and called it a major step towards a ‘decentralized education model’.
