News India Live, Digital Desk: The state government has taken a revolutionary step towards making Bihar’s law and order and crime investigation hi-tech. Bihar Director General of Police (DGP) Vinay Kumar has announced that 13 new Regional Forensic Science Labs (RFSL) will soon be started in the state. The biggest relief is that now there will be no need to send DNA samples to Delhi or Hyderabad to solve serious crimes; World class DNA testing facility is going to be started in Patna itself.

Network of forensic labs in 13 districts: There will be no delay in investigation

According to DGP Vinay Kumar, at present the delay in receiving forensic reports hinders the trial of many important cases. To overcome this problem, new forensic labs are being established in 13 major districts of Bihar. With the opening of these labs, evidence of murder, robbery and other criminal incidents will be examined faster at the district level. This will drastically reduce the time taken by the police to file charge sheets and punish the culprits.

Now you will not have to wander outside for DNA test

Till now, in Bihar, in complex cases like identification of unidentified dead bodies or rape cases, samples were sent to labs in other states for DNA testing, the reports of which would take months to come. The DGP clarified that the state-of-the-art DNA unit is being fully activated in the main forensic lab located in Patna. Apart from this, the number of mobile forensic vans will be increased in other parts of the state also so that evidence can be safely lifted from crime scenes.

Attack on corruption: Evidence will not be tampered with

Under the new forensic policy, the process of collection and investigation of evidence is being made completely digital and transparent. DGP Vinay Kumar said that due to less human interference in forensic investigation, the scope for corruption and tampering with evidence will be eliminated. He said that the recruitment process of experts and scientists for these labs has also been expedited, so that there is no shortage of technical staff.

Fear among criminals, police will get strength

This expansion of forensic infrastructure is expected to bring a big change in the functioning of Bihar Police. Experts believe that cases in the court will be strengthened on the basis of scientific evidence, which will improve the ‘conviction rate’. The DGP stressed that with the help of technology, Bihar Police will now be more capable and faster than ever in reaching criminals.
