News India Live, Digital Desk: The Central Government has taken a big decision for the students making career in the medical world. Now Bachelor of Physiotherapy (bpt) and Bachelor of Occupational Therapy (BOT) to take admission in courses like NEET-UG The examination has been made mandatory. After this new instruction of the National Commission for Allied and Healthcare Professions (NCAHP), it will now be impossible to take admission in these courses without NEET score.
What is the new rule and the cut-off issue?
Till now many states and private colleges used to have direct admission or separate entrance examinations for BPT and BOT, but now the rules have completely changed:
NEET Compulsory: Now students will have to appear in NEET exam.
Minimum Cut-Off: It is not enough to just appear in the exam, but it is also necessary to achieve the minimum cut-off percentile prescribed by NCAHP.
Centralized Counselling: To make the admission process more transparent, seats will be allotted through counseling only.
Why was this decision taken?
The aim of the government is to improve the quality of education in paramedical and allied healthcare sector. NCAHP believes that fields like Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy are directly related to the recovery of patients, hence only deserving and talented students should get admission in these courses. With this step, uniform standards will be implemented in institutions across the country.
What will be the impact on students?
The biggest impact of this decision will be on those students who used to directly go to these courses to avoid the tough competition of NEET.
Competition will increase: Now there will be competition for these courses among lakhs of NEET candidates.
Course Value: Experts believe that with this rule the value of BPT and BOT courses will increase at par with MBBS and BDS.
New approach to preparation: Now students will have to keep their preparation level as per NEET syllabus.
