A historic turning point is going to come in the politics of Bihar today. After being elected to Rajya Sabha, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar can resign from the membership of Bihar Legislative Council (MLC) today i.e. Monday, March 30. After being elected as a Rajya Sabha MP on March 16, under constitutional rules, it is mandatory for him to give up his membership of the state within 14 days, the deadline for which is ending today. With this step of Nitish Kumar, the nature of the ‘Nitish era’ that has been going on for almost two decades in Bihar will change and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is ready to assume the main role i.e. ‘driver’s seat’ in the power of the state for the first time.

Will the Chief Minister of Bihar change today itself?

According to constitutional provisions, any person can hold the post of Chief Minister for a maximum of six months even without being a member of any House (Assembly or Legislative Council). JDU insiders believe that the leadership change may be delayed by a few days. It is expected that Nitish Kumar will formally leave the post of Chief Minister only after taking oath as a Rajya Sabha member on April 10. However, the stir in the NDA camp regarding the selection of the new Chief Minister and the new form of government has intensified since today.

BJP will be the Chief Minister for the first time, JDU’s role changed

Since 2005, when NDA came to power in Bihar for the first time, BJP has been following Nitish Kumar in the role of younger brother. But this time the equations have completely changed. According to indications from senior NDA leaders, now a BJP face will become the Chief Minister in place of 75-year-old Nitish Kumar, while JDU may have to be content with the post of Deputy Chief Minister this time. This is being considered a big power shift in the politics of Bihar.

Samrat Chaudhary’s claim is the strongest, eye on Nishant Kumar also

The name of current Deputy CM Samrat Chaudhary is leading in the race for the new Chief Minister. After joining BJP in 2017, Samrat Chaudhary’s stature has grown rapidly and he has emerged as a big face of Bihar’s influential Kushwaha community (about 4.27% of the population). On the other hand, Nitish Kumar’s son recently became active in politics. Nishant Kumar Speculation is also intense regarding this. There is talk that he can be made Deputy CM in the new government, which will help in keeping JDU’s vote bank intact.

Nitish Kumar’s old wish will be fulfilled

Nitish Kumar had announced on March 5 this year that he wanted to step down from the post of Chief Minister. He had publicly expressed his desire that he wanted to make a record in his political career by becoming a member of the Bihar Legislative Assembly and both the Houses of Parliament (Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha). His dream is being fulfilled by reaching Rajya Sabha. After Nitish’s resignation, a new chapter of ‘BJP vs Opposition’ will begin in Bihar politics, in which JDU’s role as an ally party will be different from before.
