1. When the train is late for more than 3 hours
If your train is 3 hours or more late from your scheduled time and you do not want to travel by that train, then you can withdraw your ticket.

2. When AC does not work in AC coach
If you are traveling in AC coaches (eg 1ac, 2ac, 3ac, AC chair car) and AC is spoiled during the journey, you are entitled to refund.

Rule: Railways have to return the difference between AC and non-AC class fare.

What to do: On-duty during the journey TTE (traveling ticket examiner) Contact and get them written on your ticket that AC is not working. This will be the biggest proof for you.

How to get refund: After the journey is complete, you can refund claim by filing TDR with a ticket certified ticket by TTE.
What is TDR and how to file it?
TDR (Ticket Deposit Receipt) is a process of claiming refund. For online tickets, log on to IRCTC website or app, go to ‘My Account’ and click on ‘My Transactions’ and select ‘File TDR’ there. There you have to give the reason for the refund and complete the process.
