Today, in a ceremony organized at Raj Bhavan in Patna, Nitish Kumar has set a new record by taking oath as the Chief Minister of Bihar for the 10th time. Governor Arif Mohammad Khan administered him the oath of office and secrecy. With this swearing-in, the new NDA government in Bihar has formally taken over the functioning.
This time the election results have created a new equation in the politics of Bihar. The NDA alliance has secured a thumping majority by winning 202 seats, in which the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has emerged as the largest party with 89 seats. At the same time, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s party Janata Dal United (JDU) has got 85 seats.
Who became the minister? BJP’s dominance shown
The dominance of BJP is clearly visible in the cabinet of the new government. Today, along with Nitish Kumar, seven MLAs from BJP quota took oath as ministers. The new ministers who took oath include Sanjay Saraogi, Krishna Kumar Mantu, Dr. Sunil Kumar, Motilal Prasad, Raju Kumar Singh, Vijay Kumar Mandal and Jibesh Kumar. After this expansion, there are a total of 36 ministers including the Chief Minister in the Nitish Kumar cabinet. The names of the ministers of JDU and other allies and their portfolios are yet to be distributed, on which everyone’s eyes are fixed.
What will be the role of Chirag, Manjhi and Kushwaha?
Chirag Paswan’s Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), Jitan Ram Manjhi’s ‘Hum’ and Upendra Kushwaha’s ‘RLMO’ have also played important roles in NDA’s victory in this election. LJP (R) has won 19 seats, HAM 5 and RLMO 4 seats. Before the formation of the government, Chirag Paswan had also met Nitish Kumar and discussed the form of the government. Now it remains to be seen how much and what responsibilities these allies get in the cabinet.
Will Nitish complete his tenure?
Even though Nitish Kumar has once again occupied the post of Chief Minister, the question is still floating in the political circles whether he will be able to complete his tenure? After BJP becoming the largest party, it is believed that its influence on the government’s decisions will be greater than before. However, senior JDU leader Shyam Rajak and Union Minister Lalan Singh have made it clear that the NDA is united and Nitish Kumar will remain the Chief Minister for the entire tenure.
