Nepal: More than three hours meeting between Prime Minister Sushila Karki and KP Sharma Oli

Kathmandu, January 09: One to one talks took place for more than three hours on Thursday between Prime Minister Sushila Karki and CPN (ML) President and former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli. The main topic of this meeting was the elections to be held on March 5.

Oli reached Baluwatar, the official residence of the Prime Minister, at around 11 am on Thursday. Prime Minister Karki’s press advisor Ram Rawal said that initially he had come to inquire about the health of the Prime Minister’s husband Durga Subedi, but soon the meeting turned into a long political conversation between the two leaders.

According to Rawal, the talks started around 11:30 am and continued till around 2:30 pm. Rawal said that the main focus of the discussion was the elections to be held on March 5. Rawal said, “There was a private conversation between the two leaders for more than three hours. This conversation has created an atmosphere of trust between the two sides.”

During the talks, Oli assured the Prime Minister that his party would not create any hindrance in the MLA elections. According to Rawal, “Oli assured the government that there will not be any kind of obstruction or violence during the elections on behalf of Amale.” He also said that Oli expressed his commitment to participate in the elections on behalf of the party and enter into healthy competition.

Rawal said that during the meeting, Oli also inquired about the health of Prime Minister Karki’s husband. Apart from this, he also raised concerns about the election preparations and security arrangements, to which the Prime Minister assured that the government has made all the necessary arrangements and urged the voters to participate in the election process with confidence.

It is noteworthy that Oli was out of power after the ‘Gen-G movement’ that took place on 08 and 09 September and Sushila Karki became the Prime Minister on 12 September. After this, there was no direct communication between the two leaders for a long time. Although Prime Minister Karki had started talks with various political parties two months after assuming office, this was his first purely one-on-one meeting with Oli.
