Negligence after root canal can prove costly, doctor gives these 4 important tips to increase the lifespan of teeth

News India Live, Digital Desk: ‘Root Canal Treatment’ (RCT) is a very effective way to get relief from tooth pain, but often people stop going to the dentist as soon as the treatment is over. Experts believe that root canal is only half the job, the real challenge is to ensure the safety of the tooth after that. If you have also recently undergone a root canal, then these 4 important steps suggested by doctors can prevent your teeth from rotting or breaking again.

1. Capping (Dental Crown) is the most important step

During a root canal, the decay and nerves inside the tooth are removed, causing the tooth to become hollow and weak from within. Such a tooth without a crown can break at any time while chewing food. Doctors recommend that a strong cap be placed on the root canal within a week of its completion. This not only strengthens the tooth but also prevents bacteria from re-entering.

2. Periodic Checkup and X-Ray

Even if everything seems fine after treatment, get a dental checkup done at least once a year. Through X-ray, the doctor sees whether the root canal filling is in the right place or not and whether any new infection is growing near the roots of the tooth. Solutions to problems caught early are easier and less expensive.

3. Be careful in eating and drinking

Until a permanent cap is placed on the tooth, avoid eating hard or sticky foods (such as hard almonds, gajjak or chewing gum). Even after applying the cap, maintain balance in consuming very cold or very hot things. If you have a habit of grinding your teeth at night (Bruxism), talk to your dentist about a ‘night guard’ so that the cap remains secure.

4. Take special care of oral hygiene

A root canal tooth will no longer feel pain because its nerves have been removed, but this does not mean that decay cannot occur there. Plaque that accumulates near the gums can weaken the tooth root. Therefore, do not forget to brush twice a day, flossing and use anti-bacterial mouthwash. Remember, a well-maintained root canal tooth can last a lifetime.
