Pakistan’s troubled province Balochistan is shaken once again. A massive and devastating bomb blast took place in Quetta, the provincial capital of Balochistan, on Sunday. According to local media reports and eyewitnesses, a large number of casualties are reported in this suicide blast. According to initial information, this massive explosion occurred on the railway track located right near the gate of the Frontier Corps (FC) headquarters in Quetta. The explosion occurred when a passenger train was passing by. The explosion was so powerful that an entire bogie of the train was blown to pieces and within no time, flames and smoke spread all around.
Scene of devastation: Many coaches derailed, vehicles caught fire
According to reports coming from Man Phatak area of Quetta, the accident occurred when a passenger train coming from Kent station was passing through this track. The intensity of the blast was so terrible that many coaches of the train derailed.
According to preliminary reports received from local administration and hospital sources, at least 16 people have died in this terrorist attack, while more than 30 people are seriously injured. Due to the explosion, many vehicles parked near the railway track also caught fire. Immediately after the incident, security forces have surrounded the entire area and emergency relief and rescue operations have been started. All the injured have been admitted to Quetta Civil Hospital for treatment, where the condition of many remains critical.
The attack took place immediately after the visit of Army Chief Asim Munir
This suicide attack is considered to be very sensitive in terms of timing. Recently, Field Marshal Asim Munir of Pakistan Army himself visited Quetta. During his visit, he met the officers and soldiers of the forward troops deployed in Balochistan province and reviewed the security arrangements. According to the official statement issued by the Army, Field Marshal Munir had also addressed the student officers and faculty members at the prestigious Command and Staff College in Quetta, just after which the terrorists have challenged the security claims by carrying out this major attack.
Big action of army in Balochistan; 35 militants were killed
Political and military analysts believe that this suicide attack could be a violent revenge for a recent major operation conducted by the Pakistani Army. Pakistani security forces had launched a major intelligence-based counter-terrorism operation in Balochistan in which 35 active members of militant groups were killed and at least three top commanders were arrested alive.
According to the report of ‘Dawn’ newspaper, Balochistan government spokesperson Shahid Rind had confirmed that the security forces had conducted an intensive operation for four days continuously in ‘Mangla Zarghoon Gar’, a hilly area located on the outskirts of Quetta. In this successful operation, many camps and hideouts of the militants were completely destroyed. It is believed that the militant organizations, emboldened by this military action, have carried out this suicide counterattack by targeting the Frontier Corps headquarters and innocent passengers.
