According to AFP, in the Musakhail district of Balochistan province, terrorists stopped several buses, trucks and vans and shot people. Five people were injured when they were shot.

At least 23 people were killed and five wounded when militants stopped several buses, trucks and vans on the highway linking Punjab with Balochistan, Najibullah Kakar, a senior official in Musakhaiil, told AFP.

He said that vehicles coming and going from Punjab were checked and people coming from Punjab were identified and shot.

Assistant Commissioner Musakhel Najeeb Kakar said the gunmen blocked the inter-provincial highway in Musakhel's Rarsham district and forced the passengers to get off. They also set 10 vehicles on fire, Dawn reported.

He said that people have reached the spot and the bodies have been taken to the hospital.

Hamid Zehri, another senior official in the district, confirmed the death toll to AFP. It appears that BLA (Baloch Liberation Army) militants are behind the incident.

He said the BLA is the most active militant separatist group in the region.

Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti condemned the incident and offered condolences to the families of those killed, Dawn reported.

He also said that the Balochistan government will pursue the terrorists and they will not escape an exemplary end.
