This time winter has wreaked such havoc in Madhya Pradesh ahead of time that all the old records seem to be broken. The icy winds coming from the mountains have engulfed the entire state, from the capital Bhopal to Indore and Rajgarh. The situation is such that the Meteorological Department has had to issue a cold wave alert for the next 48 hours for more than half of the state.
It was so cold in Bhopal that 84 year old record was broken.
Yes, you read it right. What happened in Bhopal on Sunday-Monday night had not happened in the last 84 years. The mercury here dropped to 5.2 degrees Celsius, which is the lowest temperature so far in the month of November. Earlier in 1941 the mercury had gone up to 6.1 degrees. Clear sky and winds coming straight from the north have made Bhopal’s nights snowy.
Indore and Rajgarh also broke cold records
Not only Bhopal, many big cities of the state are shivering with cold:
- Indore: The mercury here reached 7.2 degrees, which was the coldest night of November in the last 25 years.
- Rajgarh: Here the temperature fell to 5 degrees, which is the lowest of this season.
- Gwalior, Jabalpur and Ujjain Even here the mercury has gone below 10 degrees, due to which severe cold is being felt.
Attention There is a warning of cold wave in these districts
The Meteorological Department has warned of severe cold wave for some districts, including Bhopal, Indore and Rajgarh Are included.
Other than this Dhar, Khandwa, Betul, Sehore, Vidisha, Sagar, Chhatarpur, Jabalpur, Satna and Shahdol. Cold wave alert has also been issued in many other districts.
School timings changed due to cold
To protect children from this harsh cold, school timings have been changed in many districts.
- Indore Now schools will start from 9 am.
- Bhopal Classes from nursery to 8th will start only after 8:30 am.
- Gwalior, Sagar, Shahdol and Khandwa School timings have also been extended. However, the decision is still awaited in some cities like Jabalpur and Ujjain.
What will happen next?
Meteorologists say that the effect of cold wave may intensify in the next two days. However, a new system is becoming active in the Bay of Bengal from November 22, due to which some changes may be seen in the weather. Till then, protect yourself in warm clothes.
