News India Live, Digital Desk: J&K Education Department: Weeks after the destructive floods in the Kashmir Valley, life is gradually returning to track. From today onwards, most government and private schools of the valley have returned to Raunak again. After a long time, the bells of the schools rang and the children looked happy meeting their friends. However, the situation is still not normal in the areas facing the most floods, due to which about 40 schools have been closed till further orders.
Southern Kashmir most affected
According to the Director of School Education Department, these 40 schools are mainly located in the districts of southern Kashmir, such as Kulgam and Anantnag. These are the areas where floods have caused the most havoc. The buildings of these schools have either been damaged or they are still submerged in water. Officials say that these schools will not be opened until the district administration declares buildings completely safe for the students.
Students’ safety first priority
A senior official said, “We do not want to take any risk. Children’s safety is our first priority. We have asked the district commissioners to inspect these schools and ensure their safety. As soon as we get the green signal from them, we will open these schools again.”
In schools which were opened today, attendance was less than normal. Many students are still stranded in far-flung areas or have been displaced due to floods. However, both teachers and students have expressed happiness and relief on the opening of the school. A teacher said, “The flood destroyed everything, but seeing the children back in school, a new ray of hope has arisen.”
The government and administration are now working to open the remaining schools as soon as possible, so that the education system in the valley can be completely derailed.
