There is a condition of geopolitical tension between the two countries, taking three ancient Hindu temples – Prasat Ta Muen Thom, located in the border region between Thailand and Cambodia – Prasat Ta Muen and Prasat Ta Muen Toch. All three are temples dedicated to Shiva and their historical significance is quite high, as they are associated with the reign of the 11th century Khmer Emperor King Udayadityavarman II.
These temples have also found the Sanskrit inscriptions of that time, which testify to the ancient culture and history of the region. Being so close to the boundary line, the ownership and control of these archaeological sites has been a sensitive issue for both countries. For this reason, there have been many small clashes and border disputes between the two countries. This conflict is not only focused on the management of these historical buildings, but it is also about the custody of centuries -old cultural heritage.
