  • Auspicious time of worship (Pradosh Kaal): From 05:47 pm to 08:20 pm.
  • Vrishabha period (fixed ascendant, best for worship): From 06:40 pm to 08:37 pm.

Simple worship method of Dhanteras

  1. Preparation: Take bath in the evening during Pradosh period and wear clean clothes. Spread a red or yellow cloth on a post in the north-east corner of the house.
  2. Establishment: Install the idol or picture of Lord Dhanvantari, Mata Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha on the post. Also meditate on Lord Kuber. If you have bought any new item (gold, silver, utensils), then keep it at the worship place.
  3. Pooja begins: First of all meditate on Lord Ganesha. Then bathe Lord Dhanvantari with Panchamrit and offer him Roli, sandalwood, flowers and Akshat.
  4. Lakshmi-Ganesh worship: After this worship Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha. Offer them flowers, fruits, sweets and toys.
  5. Perform Aarti: Light a ghee lamp and perform aarti of all the gods and goddesses.

Don’t forget to light the lamp of Yama

It is considered very important to light a lamp in the name of Yamraj on the evening of Dhanteras. This lamp is kept outside the house, at the main entrance, facing south. It is believed that by doing this the fear of untimely death coming to the family members is averted.

  • Make a four-sided lamp (with four lights) of dough.
  • Add mustard oil in it and light all four lights.
  • Place it at the main entrance of the house praying for the long life and good health of the family.
