News India Live, Digital Desk: We go to the gym to build our body, eat protein, but what about the poor ‘brain’ that keeps running non-stop for 24 hours? Nowadays we are all struggling with stress, anxiety and “brain fog”. Have you ever thought that it could be related to our food?
Ayurveda has been saying for thousands of years that there is a deep relationship between the stomach and the brain. If you eat ‘Satvik’ and right food, your mind will automatically remain happy. Let us know today about those simple things which are no less than a boon for mental health.
1. Desi Ghee: The brain’s best friend
Nowadays people stop eating ghee due to fear of fat, but in Ayurveda, cow’s desi ghee is considered ‘medhya’ (increasing intelligence). It provides lubrication to the nerves of the brain, which sharpens memory.
- How to eat: Every morning either add a spoonful of ghee to the pulses or drink it mixed with milk before sleeping at night.
2. Soaked Almonds and Walnuts
Our mother fed us a lot of this in our childhood, and she was not wrong. Almonds and walnuts contain healthy fats that repair brain cells. Ayurveda says that by soaking them and eating them, their effect is doubled and they become easier to digest. It works like magic in increasing your concentration.
3. Amla: Not just for hair
Amla is a miraculous fruit. It contains rich anti-oxidants which protect the brain from ‘free radicals’. In simple language, it prevents the brain from aging and strengthens the nerves. Whether eaten in murabba or raw, Amla cools the mind, which reduces anger.
4. ‘Golden milk’ (turmeric milk) at night
If you have a habit of tossing and turning throughout the night and your mind is not able to calm down, then hot milk with turmeric is just for you. It not only removes fatigue from the body, but the tryptophan present in it helps in getting good sleep. And we all know, good sleep means good mental health.
5. Satvik food: Avoid stale food
The biggest advice in Ayurveda is to eat fresh and hot food. Packaged, stale or overly spicy food increases ‘Tamas’ (laziness and darkness) in us, which leads to depression and feeling of heaviness. When you eat fresh fruits, vegetables and pulses and rice, the mind automatically feels light.
start small
There is no need to start all these things together. Simply replace your tea with herbal tea (Tulsi or Brahmi) occasionally or include dry fruits in your breakfast. Believe me, when the stomach remains healthy, the problems in the mind will start getting resolved automatically.
