Many rules for building construction have been given in Vastu Shastra. Following these rules ensures that negative energy does not enter the new house and there is no hindrance in the construction work.

In Vastu Shastra, the foundation of the house is given great importance. It is believed that a strong foundation increases the prosperity and stability of the house. Therefore, while laying the foundation, it is considered auspicious to keep some special things in it.

A pair of silver snakes are considered to be the symbol of Sheshnag, who holds the earth. Placing these in the foundation protects the house. It is also mentioned in Bhagwat Purana.

Similarly, a copper vessel is considered a symbol of prosperity. Ganga water, coins, turmeric, kumkum and flowers are kept in it, which brings blessings of Lakshmi and Vishnu.

To maintain purity and positive energy in the house, a whole lump of turmeric, a whole betel nut, four iron nails, basil, betel nut leaves, five gems and five metals are also kept in the base.

Apart from the material used to fill the foundation, also keep the direction in mind. According to Vastu, Bhoomi Pujan should always be done in the north-east corner. The person performing Bhoomi Pujan should face east and the priest performing puja should face north.
