New Delhi, 26 August (HS). Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah has been elected unopposed as the next president of the International Cricket Council (ICC). He will take over as ICC president from December 1, 2024. Currently, Greg Barclay is the current ICC president, whose term will end on November 30.
After the unanimous selection of Jay Shah, the ICC has said that he was the only candidate for this post. Only he had filed nomination for the post of President. While the current President Barclay had distanced himself from this race. In this way, 35-year-old Jay Shah will become the youngest ICC President.
At the same time, Jay Shah is the fifth Indian to become the ICC President. Before Shah, Jagmohan Dalmiya, Sharad Pawar, N. Srinivasan and Shashank Manohar have led the ICC.
According to the ICC, on being elected as the President, Jai Shah said, “I am overwhelmed to be elected as the ICC President. I am committed to working with the ICC team and our member countries to advance global cricket.
