The enthusiasm of the devotees is at its peak regarding this great festival which started with Nahay-Khay. There is a huge crowd gathering in the major markets of the city from morning till late night to purchase essential items for the festival, which is also creating traffic jams on the roads.
Increased demand for soup-daura and worship material
Shops of soup and daura (bamboo basket), which are considered most important in Chhath Puja, are being seen the most brightly. In areas like Main Road, Daily Market, Kokar Bazaar, Upper Bazaar and Harmu Bazaar of Ranchi, shops selling soup, daura, dagra and other puja items made of bamboo have been set up on the roadside.
- What are the prices: This year, soup is being sold at Rs 100 to Rs 150 per piece, while Daura is being sold at Rs 300 to Rs 500 per piece. Despite the impact of inflation, people are buying heavily out of faith, regardless of price.
- Other Ingredients: Apart from this, earthen stove, mango wood, coconut, reed, lamp, vermilion and all other items used in Chhath Puja are also being sold in abundance.
Crowd at new clothes and fruit shops also
There is a tradition of wearing new clothes during Chhath Puja, due to which huge crowd is being seen in the clothing showrooms and shops of the city. Women especially like to buy traditional sarees and men like to buy kurta-pajama. There is a lot of activity at readymade clothing shops also.
Along with this, the demand for fruits offered as Prasad in puja is also sky high. There is also a rise in the prices of fruits like banana, apple, orange, water chestnut, custard apple and dabh lemon (big lemon).
traffic system collapsed
Due to the huge crowd gathering in the markets for festive shopping, the traffic system of the city has completely collapsed. There is a jam situation from morning till evening at main intersections like Main Road, Ratu Road and Lalpur, due to which people are facing a lot of difficulties in commuting. The traffic police is trying to control the crowd, but these efforts are proving inadequate compared to the number of buyers.
Overall, Ranchi city is completely colored in the colors of Chhath. The splendor of the markets and the enthusiasm of the people is telling of the grandeur of this great festival.
