Jaishankar’s visit to Bahrain: A special meeting with King Hamad, India-Bahrain relations will get a new boost


In order to further strengthen India’s diplomatic reach in the Middle East, External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar is currently on a very important tour of Gulf countries. In this series, on Monday he had a special meeting with Bahrain’s King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa in Bahrain’s capital Manama. The main agenda of this high level meeting was to take the historic and bilateral partnership between the two countries to new heights.

President and PM’s messages to the Crown Prince

Apart from discussions with the King of Bahrain, the Indian External Affairs Minister also paid a courtesy call on the Crown Prince and Prime Minister Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa. During this, Jaishankar sent greetings to the leadership of Bahrain on behalf of Indian President Draupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In the talks between the two leaders, emphasis was laid on further deepening trade, investment and strategic cooperation.

Called the Indian community a ‘living bridge’

There is a large number of Indian expatriates living in Bahrain who are making a major contribution to the economy there. Jaishankar expressed his gratitude to the leadership of Bahrain and especially to King Hamad for always taking care of the security, welfare and interests of the Indian community. Jaishankar said that the able guidance of the King of Bahrain is continuously taking the relations between India and Bahrain forward. During his visit, the External Affairs Minister also interacted directly with the representatives of NRIs and described them as a ‘living bridge’ connecting the two countries.

Brainstorming with the Foreign Minister on regional security and trade

Just before meeting the top leadership, Dr. Jaishankar held a detailed and important meeting with his Bahraini counterpart, Foreign Minister Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zeidani. During this, the two leaders discussed not only bilateral cooperation but also rapidly changing regional developments and many global issues of mutual interest.
