Taking one such big question, a person reached Saint Premanand Ji Maharaj of Vrindavan. The question of that person was so straightforward and true that his answer has become a big learning for all of us today.
What was that question?
One person asked Maharaj ji, “Maharaj ji, I do the work of selling meat and fish to feed my family. But I never eat these things. So is it right or wrong to do this? Is it a sin?”
Premanand Maharaj gave a reply to think
The answer given by Premanand Maharaj with a very calm manner is a deep attack on the thinking of our society, where we often comfort ourselves by saying that “I am just doing my work.”
Maharaj ji explained, “Don’t think that you do not eat, you are not feeling a sin. You are becoming a partner of that creature murder. If you do not sell that meat, then how will someone buy it? And no one will buy it, then someone will bite it? Why you are a part of this sin.”
He added, “When the money earned in this way comes home, he does not just bring food with him, but also brings the bad and curse of that creature. There is never peace in the house with such money. Children continue to fight, fight, disease and mental disturbance.”
Then what to do?
The same question must have come in the mind of that person that if I leave this work then how will the family go? On this, Premanand Maharaj showed a very beautiful way.
He said, “You find some other work. Even if you get less money there. Eat dry bread, but that bread will be of religion and peace. When you earn on the path of religion, then God will also be grace and the unrest in your house will also end.”
This satsang of Premanand Maharaj teaches us that the means of our earnings should be as holy as we want to keep our mind. Because the money earned from the wrong path can never give happiness and peace.
